System settings
Navigation bar > > Settings>System settings
The System Settings section allows users and administrators to configure and maintain the main operational parameters of the EMS Web App.
From this area, you can define network connections, manage maintenance operations, customize the application appearance, and specify localization data for each device.
|
Step |
Description |
|---|---|
| Network tab | Defines communication parameters such as hostname, IP, DNS, SMTP, and Dynamic DNS settings. |
| Maintenance tab | Provides backup, restore, reset, and time synchronization tools for system maintenance and troubleshooting. |
| Customizations tab | Allows personalization of the Web App name and logo. |
| Localizations tab | Defines the geographical coordinates of the installation and displays the device position on an interactive map. |
Within each tab, a small control menu — represented by the icon — provides quick access to save or restore operations.
Clicking the icon expands a mini menu with two additional icons:
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
|
Saves all the changes made within the tab. This action is required to apply and activate any modification. |
|
|
Restores the data in the tab to the state it had before the last modification. Use this if you want to cancel changes before saving. |
Important information:
-
Changes made in any System Settings tab are not applied until the
(save) command is executed.
-
The
(restore) command reverts only the latest unsaved changes and cannot recover data that was overwritten by a previous save.
The Network tab allows users to configure all parameters related to the EMS connectivity.
From this section, you can set the device’s hostname, choose whether to obtain the network configuration automatically via DHCP or assign a static IP, define DNS servers, configure SMTP settings for password recovery, and optionally enable Dynamic DNS.
Area A - Network Configuration
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
Hostname* |
Defines the EMS network name. This field is mandatory. |
|
Get an IP address Automatically (DHCP) |
When selected, the IP address is assigned automatically by the network router. |
|
Use the following IP Address |
You can assign a static IP address by filling the fields:
|
|
Get DNS Server address automatically |
When selected, the DNS server address is assigned automatically. Note: This option is only available if DHCP is enabled |
|
Use the following DNS Server addresses |
Allows manual DNS configuration by entering:
|
Area B - Web-App Password Recovery Settings
These settings are required to enable password reset via email.
Note: all fields in this section are mandatory once SMTP is enabled. Without valid SMTP configuration, password recovery via email is not possible.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
SMTP Enabled |
Activates the email sending feature for password recovery. |
|
SMTP Server |
Defines the outgoing mail server used to send recovery emails. |
|
SMTP Port |
Port number used for SMTP communication (commonly 465 or 587). |
|
SMTP Username |
Username for authentication with the SMTP server. |
|
SMTP Password |
Password associated with the SMTP account. |
| Sender Email | The email address used as the sender for password recovery messages. |
| Sender Name | The display name shown in the recovery email. |
Area C - Dynamic DNS Configuration
Dynamic DNS (DDNS) allows the EMS to maintain a constant domain name even when the external IP address changes.
To enable this feature, check the Enable Dynamic DNS field and fill in the parameters below.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
Enable Dynamic DNS |
Activates the DDNS update service. |
|
Dynamic Server DNS |
Specifies the address of the dynamic DNS provider. |
|
Hostname |
The domain name assigned to the EMS. |
|
Username |
Account username registered with the DNS provider. |
|
Password |
Password associated with the DDNS account. |
The Maintenance tab provides tools for managing the EMS system’s configuration, backups, and recovery operations.
From this section, users can adjust date and time parameters, back up or restore the Web App database, upload HTTPS certificates, or reset the system to its factory state.
These functions are designed to ensure proper system operation, data integrity, and secure maintenance.
Area A – Date and Time Configuration
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
Date and Time |
Allows manual configuration of the EMS system clock. |
|
Time Zone |
Selects the correct regional time zone for the installation site. |
|
Enable NTP |
Activates the Network Time Protocol for automatic synchronization. If enabled, define the primary and secondary NTP servers used to synchronize the device clock. Note: when NTP is enabled, manual editing of date and time is disabled. |
Area B – Web App Configuration and System Utilities
This area provides tools for managing Web App data and restoring default settings.
It allows the user to back up or restore configurations, reset the Web App layout, and access advanced developer tools.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
| Saves the current Web App configuration as a .zip file, which can be downloaded for backup. | |
|
Restore Database |
Loads a previously saved configuration file to restore system settings. |
|
Reset Default Web App |
Restores the original dashboard layout (locations and widgets) defined in the EMS. |
| Clean Dashboard | Removes all widgets and layout elements from the current dashboard, leaving an empty workspace. |
| Reset Configuration |
Resets the Web App configuration and returns the system to the Quick Setup procedure (see Quick Setup). Note: executing this command permanently deletes all stored data and settings. A backup should be performed beforehand. |
| Reboot system |
Restarts the EMS device. This command safely reinitializes the system without altering configurations or data. |
| Developer Mode* |
Enables developer visualization mode, displaying internal label keys in the UI. Note: Available only for the Admin user. |
Use the Backup function before performing any reset or restore operation. This ensures that system data can be recovered if needed.
Area C – HTTPS Certificates
This area allows users to upload HTTPS certificates to secure communications between the Web App and clients.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
Upload HTTPS Certificates |
Opens a file selection dialog to upload valid HTTPS certificates (.crt, .pem, or .key). These are used to enable secure HTTPS connections to the EMS Web Server. |
Certificates must be signed by a trusted Certification Authority (CA) or generated with the correct private key pair.
Once uploaded, HTTPS becomes the default communication protocol for the Web App.
Area D – Reset and Recovery
This area contains functions to restore the EMS to its initial or clean state.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
|
Reset to Factory Settings |
Resets the EMS to its factory configuration, erasing all user settings and data. |
| Reset Database Entries | Deletes all entries in the system database while keeping the configuration structure intact. |
Use these options with caution, as they may permanently delete configurations or stored data. Use a Backup Database (Web App) command before executing a reset.
The Customization tab allows the user to personalize the Web App by defining a custom application name and logo.
|
Element |
Function |
|---|---|
| Name | Defines the name displayed in the Web App header. This label replaces the default EMS name. |
| Select Logo |
Opens a file selection window to upload a custom logo. Once uploaded, the new logo replaces the default one in the interface. Note: supported formats are .png or .jpg |
| Restore Default Logo | Restores the original Carlo Gavazzi logo as the Web App default image. |
-
Go to Navigation bar >
> Accounts and policies
-
Access the default administrator account
You will find a fake e-mail address (admin@admin.com) that you are recommended to change with your e-mail.
This is important in case you forget the web app password because you have to use this e-mail address to receive a "web app password reset" link.
-
Change the default email and go to the Web app password recovery settings (see the picture below).
-
Clicking it readdresses you to the System settings: there, you can enable and fill in the SMTP service parameters (see the picture below).
Note: this SMTP server is only used for the Web-App password recovery.
-
From the Login page, click Forgot password (see the picture below).
-
Enter the email address set in the procedure above (step 2).
-
Click Reset (see the picture below):
-
Go to your e-mail account and click the link for resetting the password (see the picture below):
